Hi, I’m Alex. Paw Province started as notes scribbled between foster dogs and cats, because the advice I found online rarely matched what was actually happening in my living room.
How Paw Province actually started
It didn’t start with a business plan. It started with fostering: a string of dogs and cats who needed a few weeks or a few months of a stable home before their real adoption came through. Some arrived with a full medical history and a calm temperament. Most didn’t. They arrived scared, undersocialized, or recovering from something nobody had bothered to write down.
What stuck wasn’t the dramatic stuff, it was how often the actual advice available online didn’t match what was happening in the living room. Guides written for search engines, not for the person sitting on the floor at midnight trying to figure out why a foster dog wouldn’t eat. That gap is the reason Paw Province exists: fewer keyword-shaped answers, more of what actually helps in the first week, the first month, and the years after that.
I still edit every guide published on the site and write a good share of the adoption and living-together pieces directly, drawing on that fostering background and years of rescue-adjacent volunteering. The golden retriever and tabby cat in the photo above are both part of that story: a foster who stayed, and a rescue who wandered in and never really left.
